Hooter's girl...I am not
Last night after the child was asleep, which is going so much better, but I have decided it depends on the day and her mood and her activity and her diet. So I am trying to stop obsessing about the sleeping. SO...Honey Bun has this sweet set-up in the garage, he has a TV out there and the beer fridge close by, He has the lawn chairs all set up and the cooler as a foot rest...it is a man's den out there. I stepped out to casually see what he was doing out there and he has his eyeballs glued to the screen. Turns out he is watching the Hooter's girls beauty pageant. His eyes were actually glazed over! When he finally clued in and realized I knew what he was watching, he was embarrassed about being caught watching. Kinda cracked me up! So I razzed him about that and then went back to the family room to watch the rest of the Bachelorette. Both of us were watching quality TV last night!
His only comment when the pageant was over was that he thought they all might have had "fake" boobs...well Duh! was all I said to that. I think that fact might have actually ruined the whole thing for him. Which kinda makes me feel better, but I wish you could have seen his face when he was caught...made me laugh out loud.
By the way--I am totally into the Bachelorette this time, again. I just hope I remember when it is on so I can watch next week. I am going for Jason, Graham, the science geek and one more I can't remember his name.

Plan B
You guessed it. My trusty little humidifier plan, crashed. I just about broke my arm, patting myself on the back yesterday and fairly skipped into the child's room to turn on the machine last night when a horrific squeaking noise was all I got. And then the panic sets in. I was running all over the house searching for something that made noise. I drug the huge de-humidifier in from the garage-cleaned it all up and turned that on. BUT that puts out alot of heat and not 15 min later Sweet Pea had sweat pouring off of her. Turned that off and found a small radio and set it to static. Didn't work--crying child. So I filled up the trusty humidifier with water to check to see if I had done damage, still worked! I turned it on in her room. But then I was worried about too much moisture(I have bad allergies to mold, mildew and the like) So I set the de-humidifier outside of her room and turned that on. Thinking that might take out some of the moisture that I was putting into the air. Perfect, right?!
As you can also guess, Honey Bun was not at home last night--he is usually the voice of reason, and I was clearly a panicked mess running around the house looking for a machine with a motor. I even considered running the blender ALL NIGHT LONG, but eliminated that idea when I couldn't figure out something to blend for that amount of time.
So when he got home, he only asked one question "So what are we doing here?" And when I launched into my reasoning behind the madness I had set up, I know he was sorry he asked.
But what I had forgotten, up on the top shelf in the garage sits the air purifier(lacking a filter)
Gonna try that tonight!

Till it burns up
The on-going sleep problems are at a standstill this week. It is wonderful, but now I have that nervous mom reaction to the sleeping child. I check on her about 8 times a night. Because she is sleeping! Last night, she hit the sheets at 6:15(after falling asleep in the highchair) and slept thru the night. Only woke up twice and that was to eat(because she didn't really get dinner or a bottle before) I am running the humidifier with no water in the tank. And it is working. The motor is louder than I wish it was, but it is drowning out all the outside noise, cat noise, tv, phone, dishwasher, talking, walking...all the noise and she is sleeping. So when the poor thing burns up the motor I will have to figure something else out, but for now that baby is running.

new shoes
The girl has shoes!!!
I ordered shoes last week and they arrived on Friday night. Fit is perfect, which means I need to be ordering another couple pairs pretty soon, as these feet are growing fast. They are classic Keds and very cute on her feet. And she even took a few steps on her own this weekend.
Stop the presses, my baby walks!
I also got her some sandals and they are cute, cute, cute--fisherman style, so the toes are in but there is ventilation. BUT, I left them on her too long and today she has red spots on the backs of her ankles. You know how new shoes rub and new sandals rub worse, I left them on her feet a couple hours and that was maybe one hour too many. Is 9.5 months too young to learn that fashion causes pain?

do you ever???
Do you ever put an outfit on in the morning and think to yourself...not really sure about this today? AND then the daughter starts to shake her crib and it sounds like the whole house is coming down around your ears and you realize it is only Sweet Pea and not really the house falling down. And then you totally forget about what you are wearing when you go watch how much fun she is having shaking the crib and watching her laugh about it. THEN you do notice during the staff meeting that the top and skirt that you are wearing don't really match and wonder if it would be very noticable to change your clothes at lunch and when you think about her 8 teeth of various sizes and her wonderful smile so early this morning you realize it really doesn't matter and if someone mentions that they don't match...I will tell them about the teeth and the shaking and the laughing. And they will forget that the top and the skirt don't match too. Life is good.

If eating were an Olympic event...
my daughter would win the gold!
In one fell swoop, she has moved to the toddler stage. She won't eat from the spoon (if I am holding the spoon) and the mess-o-meter is off the charts. The only right thing I did this weekend, was realize that trouble was brewing and I bought some toddler food on Saturday night as I ran through the grocery store...so on Sunday when she absolutely refused to eat ANYTHING I suggested...I started tossing chunks of food on the tray and she gobbled it right down. She even ate those icky looking meat sticks(and loved them) which are not so much like hot dogs and much more like ground up chicken in a tube like form. She doesn't like the tube part but squeezes the chicken part out and eats it up like nobody's business. It is like a light switch has turned on and she is now a babbling, eating and standing on her own kinda girl. She has even taken a few steps on her own, but still can make more progress crawling. She is growing up. Also a headstrong little thing and I can see many a tantrum in our future as she is already starting to scream if things don't go her way. I can see that life is going to be hard for her.
Sleeping is getting easier. I am getting smarter about it all and right now am wise to her game. She has to stay in the bed and cry it out more, which is just killing Honey Bun. Mostly because he can't sleep once he is woken up at night. And that baby monitor is a problem for him. He turns them all down and when I figure it out, I turn them back up. I still think I need to hear her every breath. Times are a changing at our house, and the baby monitor will go to the lake house soon, but right now, I want to be able to hear her need me.
We got some summer clothes and I was thinking that I spent too much money on it all, but then realized that I just got t-shirts and shorts and even for myself I get new summer clothes each season to freshen up the old stuff and why should it be any different for Sweet Pea. Once I got that figured out, it was all good. I still haven't found any shoes for her. I guess in my head, I think she should have some good shoes to start walking. I look around when shopping and just am not loving anything. I don't want to spend a small fortune on shoes for this little person, but then I want her to get off to a good start. I have some hand-me-downs from Little Miss, but then I think she should have her own pair and I can afford some shoes for her to start walking in. I know I am a mental case about these shoes...consequently she has none. We will shop again this weekend, because it is the region tournament and we will go watch the team play and lucky for us...shopping is close by!
